11 Days Til Christmas - Favorite Songs

(Oy! I'm so tired I posted this to the wrong blog. Thank goodness for delete!)

Married to a musician, I dare not attempt this page without asking him what his favorite holiday song is although I already knew the answer. "Happy Christmas (War is Over)" by John Lennon. And it happens to be the latest song I posted on my blog (see above - header: cover by Sarah McLachlan).

And while we are talking about music, check out the stations I posted in my sidebar, courtesy of Pandora. Listen to any of my stations that I personally created, or create your own!

Enjoy!

So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
Ans so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

Happy Xmas (War Is Over) is a song that was written by John Lennon with partial help from Yoko Ono. It was recorded at Record Plant Studios in New York City in late October of 1971, with the help of producer Phil Spector. It features soaring, heavily echoed vocals, and a sing-along chorus. The children singing in the background were from the Harlem
Community Choir and are credited on the song's single.

Directly following John Lennon's death on December 8, 1980,
the song was re-released in the UK on December 20 of that year.
The lyrics are based on a campaign in late 1969 by John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono, who rented billboards and posters in eleven cities around the world that read: "WAR IS OVER! (If You Want It) Happy Christmas from John and Yoko." Five of the eleven cities included in the billboard campaign were New York, Tokyo, Rome, Amsterdam, and London. At the time the United States was deeply entrenched in the Vietnam War, which would later become a major political debacle. The line "War is over/If you want it/War is over/Now!", as sung by the background vocals, was taken directly from the billboards.
