Julie Ann Shahin's Inspiration For Generation C

Here is my finished layout and your final tasks to complete this layout! Let's attach everything to the background paper you chose on Day 2 - Task #2.

The additional items that I used to complete my hybrid layout include embellishments I found at Target. These include KI Memories Pop Culture Softies Buttons (Round), KI Memories Pop Culture Ribbon, and KI Memories Pop Culture epoxy stickers, and KI Memories Pop Culture chipboard pieces. The chipboard bird I used is from Crafty Secrets Sweet Chips.





The flowers I used are Prima Marketing Inc., and come in the Bitty Bag. I outlined the edge of the flowers with Stickles Glitter Glue.

Today is PRINTING day!!! We are almost done with our hybrid layout...and when you're done - you'll say "well - that was so simple! I'll do it again!"

Here's what we are printing:

• Photo or photos
• Journal tag
• Embellishment tag
• Patterned paper strip
  
• Yesterday's word art tag if you haven't printed it yet

PHOTO
My photo is about 5x7 and it is a landscape photo from a trip to Key West. You can print out one photo that size, or several photos that fit into a 5x7 space. If you want to make a 5x7 photo collage in Photoshop Elements, follow these instructions.

1. Open your photographs.
2. Create a new document by going to File --> New Document. Enter in the dimensions 5" x 7" at 300 dpi, white background.
3. Drag your photo onto the new document. Re-size using the "move" tool.
   
4. Drag the additional photos onto the new document, and they will be on a new layer(s). If you need to trim a photo so it will fit, use the rectangle marquee tool. You'll have to make sure the photo's layer is selected, draw a rectangle around the part you wish to cut away. Click ctrl+x to cut.
   

JOURNAL TAG
This is going to be where your journaling goes. If you normally hand-write your journaling, try typing out your journaling onto a digital tag with the computer, OR if you have a regular typewriter, print out the digital tag and then add your journaling to it with a typewriter. If you normally type your journaling, try hand-writing.

EMBELLISHMENT TAG
A circle tag is the last hybrid item for this layout. If you need a circle freebie, you can get one at the SIS TV digi blog here, or here. It's a downloadble PDF.


PATTERNED PAPER STRIP
Choose a digital patterned paper that screams summer or co-ordinates with your photo. We only need a strip of it about 1" x 11".

PRINTING
I print on matte photo paper, size 8.5" x 11". So when I print a photo, I also print out the tags I need and the patterned paper strip I need.

There are some great tutorials on printing out there...one place to look is at Prima Hybrid. If you don't find what you need, I believe Di Hickman has some on her blog too.


Tomorrow:
Traditional embellishments and putting it all together!

Clouds are a big trend right now. Let's take a cloud shape into Photoshop Elements and use a favorite quote to create word art.

If you are short on time, you can purchase cloud word art such as the Twitterpated (A Little Birdie Told Me) Elements by Dianne Rigdon.


If you want to make your own, then try this:

For the cloud, do one of the following:

• Doodle a cloud on blank paper with a pen. Scan it in and open in photoshop elements.
• Doodle a cloud with your graphics tablet, and open it in photoshop elements.
• Find a digital cloud embellishmet that you have already purchased, that has room for word art inside.

For the word art, find a favorite quote.

Using handwriting fonts in different colors, type the quote with the Text tool on a layer above your cloud, positioned inside the cloud.

Add some doodles.

Now print this out or save it to print tomorrow with a few other items we will be printing for the layout.

Answer: I love your enthusiasm Kelleigh. We each have a different process for layouts - some start with photos, some start with journaling. I am having you try something new by starting with these techniques and products first. It's a great exercise in stretching your creative skills. The photos and journaling will be in a separate step later this week. Enjoy the process!!!

Question: I've made 2 hybride ATC's in the past, can I use one of them to link? - Iris
Answer: Definitely. If you have a hybrid (must have digital in it) ATC that you have not scrapped and want to use it, then go ahead.

Yesterday's layout task was digital so today's task will focus on physical products.

Hybrid Layout Class Task #2

Find a background paper for your layout. My background paper is 12" x 12" - you need to decide if you want yours 12x12 or 8x8 or 6x12 or 8.5x11. or 6x6. If you need to trim it. You'll also need one or two scraps that are about 1" wide and over 6" long.

That's all for today. Simple, easy. Some of you have a large stash of patterned paper. Some of you may need to go shopping - and a tip for scrapbook shopping is - only buy what you need!!!!

I made a hybrid layout yesterday, and so I decided to offer this layout as a class. Each day this week, I'll give you a simple task...and each day we'll add to the layout. By the end of the week, you'll have a beautiful hybrid layout. Maybe I'll share a sneak peek of my layout tomorrow, if you want.

Hybrid Layout Class Task #1

Create a digital ATC {artist trading card} card and print it out. Set this aside someplace safe to be used on your layout by the end of the week. If you want, add a rubon to your ATC.
